Deniz Nadide Duru Breakfast Moda

Gastronomy · Moda, Kadıköy

A small family-run breakfast spot on a Moda side street, known for a spread of regional cheeses and homemade pişi made from two kinds of dough.

Trabzon butter, Datça honey, buffalo clotted cream and Ezine cheese reach the table first, followed by warm pişi. Deniz Nadide Duru Breakfast is a small family-run breakfast shop on Gürbüztürk Street in Moda. The family describes itself as being in love with breakfast and says it wants to host guests as if at home.

What to order

The star is the serpme, or spread breakfast. Here it is prepared per person and built from products from different regions of Turkey: white Ezine cheese, İzmir tulum (a crumbly aged cheese), aged Thracian kaşar and Trabzon's stringy çeçil cheese. Alongside come acuka with walnuts (a spicy pepper spread), zahter (wild thyme), three kinds of olives, honey with clotted cream and homemade jams. The meat version adds eggs with kavurma (preserved beef) and sucuk.

The pişi is the house pride: the menu credits Nadide Hanım with making it from two different doughs. If you do not want the full spread, you can order pişi, fried eggs, omelettes or menemen (eggs scrambled with tomato and pepper) on their own.
